Five steps between the news breaking and your video going live

No prompt engineering, no spreadsheet, no twenty open tabs. Here is the entire loop, start to finish, the way a daily channel actually runs it.

Describe the channel once

The niche field is a plain sentence, not a category dropdown, because it becomes the search behind every scan. “Hollywood casting news, breakups and red carpet drama” is a good niche. “Entertainment” is not — it matches everything and therefore ranks nothing.

Then add five to fifteen specific keywords. Rare words like x-men, oscars or a named person do real work; a word like movie matches half the feed and the scoring engine will discount it automatically. Finish by choosing a language, a region and the news sections you cover — sections also pull in the top outlets for those topics.

Scan the last 24 hours

One button gathers, in parallel: Google News search feeds scoped to exactly the last day, Google News topic sections for your language and region, curated feeds from outlets like the BBC, Reuters, the Guardian, Variety, TechCrunch and ESPN, regional Google Trends, and any custom RSS feeds you added.

Then the important part: every report of the same event is collapsed into a single story. Three hundred articles become roughly twenty distinct things that happened, each carrying the list of outlets that ran it.

Read the ranked list

Each story gets 0–100 from five signals — relevance to your channel (40%), how many outlets are running it (28%), how fresh it is (16%), whether it is trending in your region (8%) and the authority of the outlets involved (8%) — and a verdict: must-cover, strong, worth a look or weak.

Listicles, opinion pieces and “every X ranked” headlines are demoted deliberately. Filters let you cut by level, freshness, minimum outlet count or your own score floor, and the detail pane shows every signal bar behind the number.

Generate the package

Pick a story and generate: five title options taking different angles, a full description, tags, hashtags and three thumbnail briefs describing shot, overlay text and emotional beat. Or tick ten stories and generate all ten at once — anything already packaged is reused, never regenerated.

Packages save permanently, are searchable by date, and export to CSV or Markdown for a writer or editor who does not need an account.

Publish, and let tomorrow know

Once a story is packaged, later scans that resurface the same news with nothing new move it to “Already covered” instead of cluttering the list. If the story genuinely develops — a denial, a confirmation, a new number — it returns to the main list flagged as an update, because that is a second video, not a repeat.

The saving is not really the ten minutes of reading. It is not spending the whole day on the wrong story.

Workflow questions

Running it day to day

How long does a scan take?

Usually five to ten seconds. It fetches dozens of feeds in parallel, so the slowest feed sets the pace rather than the total. If an individual feed times out or blocks the request, the scan completes without it and lists the failure under source warnings.

How often should I scan?

Once in the morning is enough for most daily channels, because the scan window is the last 24 hours either way. Breaking-news channels tend to scan again in the afternoon to catch stories that broke after the first pass. Scanning more often than that mostly returns the same stories with slightly different freshness scores.

What happens to a scan I ran yesterday?

The latest scan for each channel is saved for 24 hours, so closing the tab or restarting the app restores your workspace exactly as it was. After 24 hours the stale scan expires and a fresh scan replaces it. Saved packages never expire — they are permanent records.

Can I schedule scans instead of pressing the button?

Yes. There is a cron endpoint you can point any scheduler at, protected by a secret you set. Teams typically fire it an hour before the morning editorial call so the ranked list is already waiting.

What if I disagree with the ranking?

Override it. Filters let you narrow by opportunity level, freshness, minimum outlet count and your own minimum score, and every story shows its signal bars so you can see what drove the number. The ranking is there to order your reading, not to make the editorial call for you.
